Indiana Welcomes Breastfeeding

In a park, the movie theater, at the swimming pool, and the galleries of a museum — all places that Indiana mothers can now breastfeed without the fear of committing a criminal act! Before July 1st of 2003, Indiana Code 16-35-6 read that "a person who knowingly or intentionally, in a public place: … appears in a state of nudity … commits public indecency, a Class A misdemeanor." Thanks to House Bill number 1510 to amend the Indiana Code concerning criminal law and procedure, effective 07/01/03 breastfeeding in public is now allowed. The amendment reads: "Notwithstanding any other law, a woman may breastfeed her child anywhere the woman has a right to be." So the next time you munch on popcorn at the movies, or feast on a picnic in the park, remember that babies, too, can eat anywhere their mom has a right to be!
